Let's be honest. The odds of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James bagging the MVP award this coming season aren’t very good. Nevertheless, this is still The King we’re talking about here, so for him to get ZERO votes in the NBA’s recent GM survey is just straight-up slander.
The NBA has recently released the results of its annual survey involving general managers of teams from around the league. Team executives voted on who they believe will take home the 2021-22 MVP trophy and unsurprisingly, Durant of the Brooklyn Nets came out on top with 37% of the votes. Interestingly, Luka Doncic of the Mavs came as a close second, with 33% of the MVP votes. Reigning Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo rounded out the Top 3 with 13%, while Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Stephen Curry all received votes as well.
It’s pretty hard to fathom how LeBron James literally got zero votes from a pool of 30 general managers. This is simply an ultimate showing of disrespect, and I’m pretty sure LeBron and the Lakers will keep this in mind once the season starts.
For what it’s worth, the Lakers also got voted as the second most likely team to go all the way and win the title this season. They received just 17% of the votes, however, with a whopping 72% going in the way of Durant and the Nets.
